Arthropods and isopods Arthropods and isopods are related in that isopods are a specific type of arthropod. Arthropods are a vast phylum of animals characterized by their segmented bodies, jointed limbs, and exoskeletons made of chitin. Isopods, belonging to the order Isopoda, are a subgroup within the larger class of crustaceans, which are themselves a major group of arthropods. Therefore, all isopods are arthropods, but not all arthropods are isopods. Tarantula Tarantulas comprise a group of large and often hairy spiders of the family Theraphosidae .[2] As of December 2023, 1,100 species have been identified, with 166 genera.[3] The term “tarantula” is usually used to describe members of the family Theraphosidae, although many other members of the same infraorder (Mygalomorphae) are commonly referred to as “tarantulas” or “false tarantulas”. Some of the more common species have become popular in the exotic pet trade. Many New World species kept as pets have setae known as urticating hairs that can cause irritation to the skin, and in extreme cases, cause damage to the eyes.[4] Mantodea Mantises are an order (Mantodea ) of insects that contains over 2,400 species in about 460 genera in 33 families. The largest family is the Mantidae (“mantids”). Mantises are distributed worldwide in temperate and tropical habitats. They have triangular heads with bulging eyes supported on flexible necks. Their elongated bodies may or may not have wings, but all mantodeans have forelegs that are greatly enlarged and adapted for catching and gripping prey; their upright posture, while remaining stationary with forearms folded, resembling a praying posture, has led to the common name praying mantis .
