The species is:

egg-laying,

and mature females require access to deep, slightly moist nesting substrate.

Helmeted Iguanas are naturally cryptic, relatively sedentary sit-and-wait predators and should not be expected to behave like constantly active basking lizards.

They are best maintained as:

low-disturbance naturalistic display animals.

With correct temperatures, high but fluctuating humidity, dense cover, excellent ventilation, appropriate UVB and a varied diet, Corytophanes cristatus can be a fascinating specialist species for the experienced keeper.
