Admin Alert! How and When to Use the ‘Report Post’ Button
We want ReptileCommunity.com to be a safe, helpful, and positive place for everyone. While our moderators monitor the forums, we rely on you, the community, to be our eyes and ears.
The ‘Report Post’ function is your direct, private line to the admin team to flag content that violates our rules or poses a threat to animal welfare.
1.
Where is the ‘Report’ Button?
You can report any post or any comment on the forum.
Look for the small icon—it’s usually a flag or three vertical dots ($$) —located at the bottom corner of every individual post.
2.
What Happens When You Report?
This is important: Reporting a post is completely private.
-
It does not notify the user whose post you are reporting.
-
It does not notify the public.
-
It immediately sends a private message to the entire moderation team for review.
We prioritize all reports and will review the flagged content and take action quickly, whether that means editing the post, moving the thread, or issuing a warning.
3.
When Should You Use the ‘Report’ Button?
The Report function is for serious issues that require moderator intervention. Please use it for the following violations:
-
Rule-Breaking Behavior: Any post containing harassment, personal attacks, hate speech, or bullying.
-
Spam & Scams: Posts that are clearly promotional spam, advertising outside of approved channels, or trying to scam other members.
-
Dangerous Advice: Posts containing husbandry advice that is blatantly incorrect and could immediately or severely endanger an animal’s life (e.g., advising someone to use non-heat-safe materials or dangerous feeding methods).
-
Prohibited Content: Discussions or images related to illegal species, animal cruelty, or content strictly banned by the Community Code.
-
Gross Misplacement: If a post is placed in a forum where it makes no sense and is genuinely confusing the conversation (e.g., classified ads placed in the Health forum).
4.
What NOT to Report
Please do not use the Report function for simple, non-urgent matters. This clogs up the moderator queue and delays response to serious issues.
-
Simple Disagreement: If you disagree with someone’s opinion, use the Reply or Quote function to engage in a civil debate.
-
Minor Typos/Formatting: If a user has a small typo or poor grammar, just ignore it.
-
Minor Off-Topic Posts: If someone briefly goes off-topic but isn’t harming the discussion, let it go.
For questions directed to the Admin Team that are NOT urgent or violations, please use the Private Message (PM) system instead.
Thank you for helping us keep ReptileCommunity.com a welcoming and reliable resource for all reptile keepers!
