The community 2.0

Hi All,

I’ll reiterate my opinion from the introduction thread that I’m so glad to see this forum back live. I know there must be some heavy lifting to maintain a website/forum behind the scenes but, I’d hope that technology allows that to be an easier process for the admins nowadays.

Personally, I think a platform like this helps a niche community like ours come together away from the noise of social media where everything is all at once. I might just have evolved from a youngster to a now “old school” person but, the specific place to ask questions, offer advice and just generally nerd out over the things we love, was a huge part of the hobby for me when I entered and I hope that it offers the same for anyone else in the reptile hobby.

Huge thanks to the Reptile Community founders and Admin! I’m glad to be here for the second rodeo!

Thanks Larry, closing the last forum was a hard thing to do, it was labour of love that we’d spent many years at but unfortunately social media took over forums, the amount of information to help the reptile community lost when we closed it is the worst part, it was an informative forum and like you say where many as a youngsters turned to for advice when starting and got help from with keeping reptiles when new into the hobby, the experienced on it talked the talked with each other but always helped others new into reptiles it’s something I can only only hope happens this time around, keeping reptiles and the equipment has moved forward since the last forum so excited about what we can all gain from the new reptile community sharing knowledge and experience, hopefully this the place for reptile discussions, and thankfully we got modern since the old days and uploading pictures easy now.

New here so take it for what its worth but I’m an old fart and started in the hobby some 35 years ago. I’m a techie work wise but the one thing I could never understand was how facebook groups, subreddits etc were ever able to push forums out.

The way topics can be organized, discussed and moderated is what makes forums (imho) a much better way to collect knowledge about the hobby that is easily searchable. So from my end … its great to see a community like this here in Ireland!

Hi @ThanosTheDwarf

Agreed, the structure makes far more sense than any other platform in my opinion as well. Feels like there’s a whole generation of hobbyists that have yet to experience the “old school” forum style of info sharing. A solid go to once populated with info! As crazy as it sounds I’m 20 years in the hobby too… makes me feel ancient
