The Yellow Anaconda (Eunectes notaeus) is a large, powerful, semi-aquatic boa native to South America. It inhabits wetlands, marshes, swamps, seasonally flooded grasslands and the margins of slow-moving rivers, particularly within the Paraguay and lower Paraná river systems and associated wetlands.
Although considerably smaller on average than the Green Anaconda, the Yellow Anaconda should never be regarded as a small or straightforward alternative. Successful long-term husbandry requires much more than a large snake enclosure with a water bowl. What UVB Do I Actually Need?
For a Yellow Anaconda, look for a:
quality linear T5 UVB system capable of producing low-level UV exposure.
Do not automatically purchase a powerful desert UVB tube.

UVB — What Do I Actually Need to Buy?
Yellow Anacondas do not need the intense UV exposure associated with desert lizards.
For a purpose-built enclosure, look for:
a quality linear UVB system capable of providing low-level ultraviolet exposure.
Your practical target is approximately:
UVI 1–2 in an accessible illuminated/resting area.
The rest of the enclosure should provide:
LOWER UV → SHADE → COMPLETE UV SHELTER.
Do not simply buy the strongest UVB tube available.
The percentage written on the packaging is not the same thing as the amount of UV reaching your snake.
Remember:
Closer lamp = generally more UV
Farther away = generally less UV
Mesh = usually reduces UV
If you’re buying equipment and are unsure what you need, ask for:
“A linear UVB system for a large semi-aquatic tropical snake, providing approximately UVI 1–2 with extensive shaded areas.”
Then determine the correct mounting distance for the exact lamp and enclosure.
Also remember that UVB does not replace heating or ordinary lighting:
HEATING SYSTEM = WARMTH
UVB SYSTEM = ULTRAVIOLET
DAYLIGHT LED = BRIGHT VISIBLE LIGHT
They perform different jobs.
For a very large enclosure, multiple lighting fixtures may be required to produce a natural-looking day cycle, but UVB does not need to cover the entire enclosure.
The goal is:
appropriate optional exposure with plenty of environmental choice.
